Every Saturday, I wake up at 7am and take a taxi to Carabayllo, which is a district of Lima. Sometimes it can take an hour and a half to get there because of traffic. We meet at one of the leader’s homes with the leadership team to get organized and pray. Every Saturday, we teach a different lesson from the Bible, and we also prepare games and music.
When the children arrive, we take attendance, pray, and sing a few songs, including our theme song, “One Way”. Our Director, Ligia, teaches the students and then I teach a Bible lesson, such as the story of Abraham, David, Samuel, Joseph, etc.
Our goal is for the children to learn about God’s love, so I teach them the Biblical text, and I ask them questions on the subject while teaching.
Then, we go out to a sports field to play! After a lot of fun, we return to the leader’s house to share soft drinks and cookies with the children. At the end of the class we assign a take-home activity for the children to complete at home and bring back to class the following week.
Some Saturdays can be different if the Holy Spirit leads us to have a moment to pray for specific things for them, such as their families, health, studies, fears, and identity in Christ. Other Saturdays we have a soup kitchen where we prepare food alongside the leaders of the community and serve the food to the children and their parents, share the gospel with the parents, and pray for the families.
We have a great program with the One Way students, and we already have about 25 consistently faithful students every Saturday.
Every Saturday can be different, as far as what God does in the hearts of each student and with us, but our important mission is that they know and have a relationship with a real and living God.
This is a day in the life, and a glimpse into our “ONE WAY” program for children in Carabayllo.
Thank you and God bless you,
